Historical Timeline

It has been a thousand years since those born of the earth watched the sky burn.

There was a time, once, when these lands were ruled by man. Kingdoms built by human hands stretched across the valleys, rivers, and mountains. Their places of worship shone in the evening sun, and their banners flew as they battled with factions of their own kind. Still, man has always had a hunger for more. In their quest to dominate as far as the eye could see their gaze turned toward the heavens. The beasts who called the sky their home had unknowingly acquired a new enemy.

I. The Infernal Strike (Year 0)

This war was started with iron, not fire.

A Sovereign dragon, Drest, was among the first to be brought down. He was struck from the heavens by a coordinated assault, and his fall marked the beginning of open war between the humans and dragons. In swift response to the fall of Drest, the other dragons descended. The conflict that followed created chaos the likes of which had never been seen before. Entire forests burned, mountain sides cracked and tore away into the valleys below. Ancient cities were turned to ash in moments, and the war quickly turned from strategizing to surviving.

The kingdoms of man united under a banner of fear and ambition. They forged weapongs designed for the sole purpose of wounding the dragons, reinforcing their castle walls and linking great chains together to bind the wings of those that could fly. Their wizards crafted chemicals that clung to scales and burned like fire, monastaries became centers of war, and man watched as the dragons fell to earth. At least, in the beginning.

A turning point came when another Sovereign, Gala, succeeded in uniting once-fractured dragon clans. Though the agreements made were tenuous, territorial rivalry was set aside in the name of protecting the whole of the species. Under Gala's command, the dragons turned from scattered battling and began to strike with purpose. Kingdoms fell within months. Humanity fell within a generation. The threat was no more.

The dawn of the dragon has begun.
